The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday said there were no adverse reactions reported on the first day of COVID-19 inoculations of adolescents aged 15 to 17 years old.
“Naging matagumpay po iyong simula ng vaccination rollout for our pediatric population with comorbidities kahapon,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said during PTV’s Laging Handa briefing.
(Yesterday’s start of the vaccination rollout for our pediatric population with comorbidities was successful.)
The National Task Force against COVID-19 said at least 1,151 adolescents aged 15 to 17 years old were inoculated against COVID-19 on Friday, the first day of the vaccine rollout for that age group with comorbidities.
“Wala po tayong na-i-report na untoward, adverse reaction among these [vaccinated] children ,” she added.
(There were no reported, untoward adverse reactions among these vaccinated children.)
The vaccination of adolescents with comorbidities was held at eight hospitals in Metro Manila, designated as venues for the pilot program.
The hospitals were the National Children’s Hospital, Philippine Children’s Medical Center, Fe Del Mundo Medical Center, Philippine Heart Center, Pasig City Children’s Hospital, Philippine General Hospital, St. Luke’s Medical Center BGC, and Makati Medical Center.
After those aged 15 to 17 were vaccinated against COVID-19, the next group that would get inoculated was the 12-14-year-old age bracket.
The NTF said those who were qualified for the vaccine rollout among minors (pediatric A3) were those with comorbidities such as medical complexity, genetic condition, neurologic conditions, metabolic or endocrine diseases, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, HIV Infection, tuberculosis, chronic respiratory disease, renal disorders, and hepatobiliary disease, and those who were immunocompromised due to disease or treatment.
The DOH estimated that there were around 1.2 million children with comorbidities aged 12 to 17 years old nationwide.
The vaccine rollout would be held next in all 17 local government units in Metro Manila starting October 22.
The LGUs would each identify one hospital as a vaccination site, the NTF said. — DVM, GMA News
