Marjorie Taylor Greene's Book Is a Flop

amazon, marjorie taylor greene's book is a flop

Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) talks to reporters following a Republican caucus meeting in the basement of the U.S. Capitol on September 14, 2023 in Washington, D.C. Greene’s recently released book is ranking quite low in the list of Amazon’s best-selling books.

Less than a week after its release, Marjorie Taylor Greene’s book isn’t performing as well as that of Republican Senator Ted Cruz, according to data available on Amazon.

The Georgia Republican released her memoir, titled “MTG”—the initials by which she’s known by her supporters—on November 21.

In the book, Greene said she speaks of January 6, 2021, gives “inside stories about the Swamp you won’t hear anywhere else” and writes about “Jewish Space Lasers”—a reference to an antisemitic conspiracy theory she spread in 2021, when she said that the Rothschild banking family was behind an anti-Christmas plot.

But almost a week after the book’s release, the memoir is failing to capture readers’ interest.

On Amazon, the world’s largest online bookstore, the MAGA Republican’s memoir was ranking 9,735 among its best-selling books as of Monday, November 27. The book had only eight reviews and a ranking of two out of five stars.

“I was a huge supporter of MTG and voted for her 2 times. But this book is garbage,” reads one of the reviews, which gave Greene’s memoir 1 out of 5 stars.

“The only thing in this book that is truthful is her name. Was going to buy it for family for Christmas but glad I read it first.”

“I saw my neighbor throwing this book into the trash and ask him if I could read it first. Boy, what a boring mistake,” reads another one-star review on Amazon. “This is book is far from any reality and full of imaginations. Don’t waste your time.”

“America First? Printed in Canada. Filled with lies,” reads yet another one-star review. Another reader joked that the book had nothing to do with Magic: The Gathering—an iconic game which shares the same initials as the Georgia congresswoman.

In Amazon’s political commentary and opinion category, the book was ranking 27 among the platforms’ best-sellers. By comparison, a book by Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas titled: “Unwoke: How to Defeat Cultural Marxism in America” was ranked six in the same category. The same book was ranking 1,023 overall in Amazon’s best-selling books on Monday—far ahead of Greene’s memoir.

Cruz’s book, which was released on November 7, is also currently faring better than Greene’s in terms of reviews and has a 4.3 out of 5 star rating.

Newsweek contacted Greene’s spokesperson and Cruz’s office by email for comment on Monday.

While Greene’s book was praised and promoted by Donald Trump on his social media platform Truth Social, the work also received widespread criticism, with late-night host Jimmy Kimmel slamming the memoir as Greene’s “dumbest idea yet.”

“Speaking of Christmas in hell, Marjorie Taylor Greene released a book today. It’s the first book she’s ever written or read, and it’s called MTG, it’s got a little bit of everything,” Kimmel said during last Tuesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!
