Seems we all have some ketch-ing-up to do.

Apparently there is a right way to properly squeeze the ketchup out of plastic bottles, but most people are oblivious to the more efficient method.

Jordan Howlett, a 27-year-old TikTok star from San Diego, California, known for sharing insights into the fast-food industry, demonstrated to his audience of 12 million followers how to properly squeeze the sauce.

Using the technique makes it so that gravity does most of the work in coaxing the condiment out of its upside-down container – and viewers were left stunned.

Responding to a TikTok of a man squeezing out ketchup with remarkable efficiency, Jordan broke down the history of ketchup bottles and the superior squeezing technique

The creator, whose video was inspired by another TikTok of a man demonstrating the superior method, claimed he wrote a college paper on ‘ketchup bottle development,’ which, if true, makes him an especially savvy source for this hyper-niche factoid.

Heinz released its distinctive octagonal glass ketchup bottle in 1890, he described.

Almost a century later, in 1983, the iconic ketchup brand came out with a squeezable plastic vessel for its product – although the shape still resembled the classic glass jar.

‘But it was still difficult to get ketchup out of the bottle,’ Jordan explained.

Finally, in 2001, Heinz debuted the upside-down model of condiment containers.

This design saw the lid double as the base, keeping the ketchup close to the opening.

A little-known secret, however, was that squeezing the sides of this bottle – as opposed to squeezing from the front and back – pushes the ketchup out with practically zero exertion.

In his video, Jordan went on to demonstrate the effectiveness of the technique.

‘Now if you were to squeeze a gravity bottle from the front like this, you have to physically squeeze for it to come out.

‘But if you were to squeeze a bottle from the sides, and then release, all the pressure is going to push out the ketchup on its own,’ he narrated.

One disclaimer Jordan added was that the approach relies on air pressure.

So the emptier the bottle, the less efficient it will become.

Thousands of Jordan’s many fans took to the comment section, expressing a variety of reactions.

‘If baffles me how companies spend millions of dollars on developing this kind of stuff and then TELL NO ONE!’ vented one exasperated TikToker.

‘Now I’m using ketchup wrong?! Man I’m done with the internet,’ grumbled a second.

‘Bro majored in food hacks,’ joked a third of Jordan’s breadth of food trivia.

Yet another ecstatically declared: ‘I TRIED IT IT WORKS!!!!!’
