The Eagles were down 10 points at halftime on Sunday, which means that they had the Bills right where they wanted them.
Jalen Hurts threw three touchdown passes in the second half and ran for his second touchdown of the game in overtime to lift the Eagles to a 37-34 win at home. It was the fourth straight week that the Eagles won a game that they trailed at halftime, which is a both an NFL record and a reason to the believe in Hurts’ MVP case as the season enters the home stretch.
After the game, Hurts said it has “definitely been a unique journey” and that he’s more concerned with the team’s ability to find a way to win games than he is with what kind of laurels might be thrown his way for being the team’s leader.
“That’s not for me to concern or roll with. I just try to go out there and play to the standard and be the best I can be for my team,” Hurts said, via a transcript from the team. “There were times today I felt like I didn’t do that, but when it mattered most I felt like we did a good job of doing what we needed to do. We played team football, communicated well, and that’s all in the outcome of what happened. We really were on the same page when it mattered most and that’s all you can ask for. Anything else that I’m named or people want to roll with, I guess that’s for them to do so.”
A 10-1 start filled with dramatic moments like Sunday night’s game-winning touchdown run and go-ahead touchdown pass to Olamide Zaccheaus on fourth down in the fourth quarter is the start of thing that results in awards come the end of the year. If the Eagles continue to come up big in the biggest moments, the Lombardi Trophy may be among them.
