NCB Mumbai zonal director Sameer Wankhede ‘let off a major international drug racketeer‘ during the Cordelia cruise raid and foisted cases against Aryan Khan and others, Maharashtra skill development minister Nawab Malik has alleged.
Malik said that he wanted NCB officials to investigate ‘who was let off and why’ before he is forced to reveal the name of the person. The BJP, however, supported Wankhede against whom a vigilance inquiry has been instituted. BJP demanded Malik’s resignation.
“I have videos of the Cordelia cruise, where a bearded person involved with the international drug mafia was present along with his girlfriend. This man was arrested earlier and was lodged in Tihar Jail. I have information that he was lodged in a jail in Rajasthan too. I believe this person is a friend of Wankhede and hence he ignored him and booked unconnected people in the cruise case,” Malik alleged.
NCB senior officials investigating the allegations against Wankhede must probe the ‘bearded man’ in the cruise raid who was let off, Malik said. “I want the NCB to investigate; I have given a clue and I know that other officials are aware of this person but did not take any action against him. If I find that they are not investigating the man and he is not caught, then I would reveal more,” he alleged.
A delegation of Mumbai BJP leaders led by chief Mangal Prabhat Lodha, meanwhile, met governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari seeking Malik’s dismissal from the MVA government. “In spite of being a minister, he is threatening a government servant doing his duty. He should resign,” Lodha alleged. Opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis too supported Wankhede. He said Malik was ‘misusing’ his constitutional post to attack Wankhede. State BJP chief Chandrakant Patil said, “those who have taken the oath of protecting the Constitution are making attempts to dismantle a system based on the Constitution. Whoever has to make a decision on this will take an appropriate decision.”
Malik, however, said he was not targeting NCB. “NCB should go after the people in the Cordelia cruise who were let off. Four to five grams of drugs were planted on people and arrested. Why is the BJP worried when I am exposing Wankhede? Are they worried that the ₹1,000 crore extortion racket would be exposed?”
Returning to his accusation on Wankhede’s caste certificate, Malik said the NCB officer’s first marriage showed his father’s name as Dawood Wankhede. “This is not about religion… However, a seat meant for a Scheduled Caste job aspirant has been appropriated by a person claiming to be from that caste when he was actually a Muslim. If the BJP is supporting what Wankhede did, then they should give the same reservation benefit to all the 15 crore Muslims,” Malik said.
