kosovo declares support for ukraine: only russia can lose war

Kosovo’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz said that Russia must lose its large-scale military aggression against Ukraine. Otherwise, it threatens to expand the war on the European continent, according to the Associated Press.

Kosovo’s foreign minister noted that even though Ukraine has not yet recognized the Balkan state’s independence from Serbia, which it declared in 2008, Pristina fully supports Kyiv.

“Ukraine hasn’t recognized the Republic of Kosovo as a state, but we really believe that we know exactly what Ukraine is going through,” she said in an interview with AP.

Thus, Gërvalla-Schwarz added, Kosovo knows that “there is only one solution, not only for Ukraine but for Europe”.

“It can only be Russia to lose the war and Ukraine to win this war,” she emphasized in a conversation with journalists.

Otherwise, Gërvalla-Schwarz added, Europe should prepare “for other conflicts in our continent.”

“While Kosovo is a small state with very modest possibilities to help, we have tried to be very helpful with Ukraine and have not hesitated to show our unconditional support and sympathy to the people and to the state of Ukraine,” she said.

Threats to Kosovo from the Kremlin

As noted in the AP publication, earlier this week there was another reminder of the threats to Kosovo from Moscow. This was the case when the Russian Telegram channel called for an attack on the Kosovo government’s websites.

This happened after the Balkan country’s defense minister announced new military assistance to Ukraine at a conference in Warsaw on Tuesday.

Earlier it was also reported that in November last year, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg noted during his visit to the Western Balkans that Russia is trying to undermine and destabilize the situation in the countries of the Balkan Peninsula through subversive actions aimed at inciting separatist sentiment.

In late February, it was also reported that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had arrived in Albania to participate in the Ukraine-Southeast Europe Summit. The leaders of Albania, Serbia, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro also took part.
