Norway supplies more gas and fills European shortages

Norway supplies more gas and fills European shortages

The Norwegian state oil and gas company Equinor will supply more gas to Europe from 1 October. This concerns 2 billion cubic meters of extra gas for the coming autumn and winter period.

According to Equinor, it is a good time for additional gas supplies because the European market is struggling with shortages. Due to a cold spring, the gas stock has shrunk and those stocks have been insufficiently replenished in recent months. Russia also supplies less gas than before.

Due to the scarcity, the gas price is rising and millions of households can expect a significantly higher energy bill. Due to the extra supply from Norway, energy prices are expected to rise less than expected.

Equinor is the largest gas supplier in Europe after Gazprom. The company has received permission from the Norwegian government to extract extra gas from two fields off the Norwegian coast.

The demand for gas has increased due to the economic recovery after corona. Prices can fall due to a warm winter, but the reverse is also true; prices will rise due to a severe winter.
