The race is an annual event and draws crowds of competitors and spectators

Motorists are being warned of road closures and parking restrictions as thousands of runners descend on King’s Lynn.

The Recipharm GEAR (Grand East Anglia Run) 10k starts at 09:30 BST on Sunday in the Norfolk town’s Tuesday Market Place – where participants will also cross the finish line.

Alongside the main 10km (6.2m) race, there will be a teams race and a 1.9km (one mile) route for children aged six and over.

Race organisers said some road restrictions would be in place from as early as 04:30 until 16:00.

The annual race is organised by Run For All, in partnership with the district’s council, which said the event would require the closure of roads and road junctions as well as the suspension of a number of traffic regulation orders.

Parking in areas including London Road, Boal Street, King Street and Tuesday Market Place will be unavailable from 04:30 to 13:00.

Road closures along the race route will be in place from 08:30 including: King Street, Purfleet Place, South Quay, Boal Street, Church Street, Saturday Market Place, High Street, Norfolk Street, Tower Street, St James Street, Stonegate Street, Milfleet, St James Road, London Road, Wisbech Road and Clenchwarton Road.

The final closure on the route will be reopened for 13:00, with London Road and Clenchwarton Road reopened by 11:30, they said.

A map of the route and full road closures information is available here.

There are three different races taking place in the market town

Tristan Batley-Kyle, operations director at Run For All said: “As with many major running events, some road closures are put in place to ensure the safety of the participants and spectators.

“We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused. All closures will be lifted as soon as possible.”

The race day is expected to raise money for a number of local causes including its official partner charities the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, the Purfleet Trust, Break, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Linnets in the Community and the 8:56 Foundation.
