Nepal took ‘unilateral’ measures, does not change ground reality: Jaishankar on new notes showing Indian territories
On Nepal government’s recent decision to introduce new Rs 100 currency note featuring Indian territories, external affairs minister S Jaishankar Saturday said that by doing something on their side, they (Nepal) are not going to change the situation between the two countries or the reality on the ground.
“Our position is very clear. With Nepal, we are having discussions about our boundary matters through an established platform. In the middle of that, they unilaterally took some measures on their side,” said Jaishankar during an interaction with media in Bhubaneswar.
Nepal on Friday announced the printing of a new Rs 100 currency note with a map that shows the contentious territories of Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani, already termed as “artificial enlargement” and “untenable” by India.
The EAM is in Odisha to attend various programmes in the state capital and in Cuttack and Sambalpur organised by the state BJP unit.
On the issue of cross border terrorism, the EAM said when it comes to the national security, the Modi government will never make any compromise as “Bharat first and security first” first is their policy.
“Where Pakistan is concerned, there is a history of cross border terrorism. Till Modi sarkar came, we were tolerating it. We were turning the other cheek. We were not acting. Things have changed after Modiji came. We saw it in Uri and Balakot,” said Jaishankar.
The EAM said on China, “In the last four years, attempts were made to put pressure on us by bringing alot of troops to the line of actual control (LAC). We have very strongly countered it. Today thousands of Indian troops are deployed in the LAC. We are very clear… we are strong and deployed… any action we have to take… as per circumstances… our armed forces will do their job,” he added.
