Sanusi apologises to Anwar, Cabinet for inappropriate remarks

PETALING JAYA: Controversial and outspoken Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor has apologised to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Cabinet ministers and sought forgiveness for making inappropriate remarks as menteri besar and in a political capacity.

“As fallible human beings, errors and mistakes are inevitable. May this Syawal get together be the reason for us to turn over a new leaf together, moving forward with pure intent, sincerity, and responsibility,” he said at the state-level Aidilfitri celebrations in Alor Setar tonight, Bernama reported.

He said the interests of the people should precede the eagerness to maintain political power, and all political matters should be dealt with in the political arena.

He also hoped the federal government would give attention to Kedah and not sideline the state.

Sanusi is head of the PAS state government in Kedah and also PAS election director.

In June last year, Sanusi accused Anwar of “making use” of the poor and dismissed the latter’s concerns about the poor as being mere talk.

He had also got into a spat with home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail over the theft of rare earth elements in the state, which led Saifuddin to accuse Sanusi of incompetence.

The duo butted heads again recently over the state’s development action council meetings.

Sanusi had also compared tourism, arts and culture minister Tiong King Sing to a “pot-bellied deity” when accusing him of not doing enough to promote tourism in Kedah.
