Virat Kohli etched his name in history books and achieved a huge milestone during the IPL 2024 match against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Bengaluru. Opening the innings for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Virat achieved a huge record and he became the first Indian to score 12500 runs in T20 cricket. Virat was six runs short of the tally and he achieved the milestone with a huge hit off Mohit Sharma on the second delivery of the chase.

Virat, the only Indian batsman with 12000 runs in T20s, now has 12500* runs in 387 matches. The former India captain averages over 41 and he has batted with a strike rate of more than 130. Virat’s tally includes 9 centuries and 95 half-centuries.

The Indian legend started his T20 career with Delhi in 2007. He joined RCB in the pre-auction draft before IPL 2008 and has been with them since then. Apart from being India’s highest run-scorer in T20s, Virat also holds the record of scoring most runs in IPL. The former RCB captain is only player in IPL’s history to score more than 7000 runs in the T20 league.

Gayle is followed by Shoaib Malik, who has 13360 runs in 542 matches. The former Pakistan captain still plays T20 cricket. With 12900 runs, Kieron Pollard sits at the third spot. The star all-rounder has retired from IPL but plays other leagues.

Among Indians, Virat is followed by Rohit Sharma. The India captain has 11482 runs in 424 T20s. Shikhar Dhawan sits at the third spot. The former India opener has 9797 runs in 334 T20s. Dhawan leads Punjab Kings in IPL.

Virat Kohli regains Orange Cap

Virat Kohli pipped Ruturaj Gaikwad and he now once again owns the Orange Cap. Ruturaj recently went past Virat. The CSK opener has 509 runs in the league. Virat went past Ruturaj during the game against Gujarat Titans.
