The Dutch women’s soccer team will not be able to compete to win a medal at the Tokyo Olympics after losing to the United States in the quarterfinal penalty shootout.
The score ended 2-2 after Lieke Martens missed a penalty kick in the 8th minute.
The match was also the last match for coach Sarina Wiegman, who left Orange-Nassau four years later to coach the English team. British Mark Parsons succeeds Weegman.
During Weegman’s day, Oranje had a series of successes, becoming the European champion in 2017 and only losing to the United States in the 2019 World Cup final.
Elsewhere, the men’s hockey team will lose 3-1 in their final group match against Germe and will face Group A winner Australia in the quarterfinals.
