Tributes flow for tragic 18-month-old Hunter Molloy as social media flooded with blue hearts in his honour

Tributes continue to flow for an 18-month-old boy who lost his life in a road traffic incident in Co Clare as heartbroken family and friends flood social media with blue hearts in his honour.

Little Hunter Molloy died in an incident involving a car on Wednesday afternoon at the Ballaghboy Halting Site on the Quin Road in Ennis. He was transferred to University Hospital Limerick, where he sadly passed away from his injuries.

Father Tom Ryan, who held a prayer service on Wednesday evening for Hunter, said there are no words that can relieve the pain of Hunter’s parents Peter and Alisha and their family.

“Wednesday was a very sad day for the Molloy family and indeed for the whole community who live in the halting site in Ballaghboy on the Quin road,” Father Ryan told Clare FM on Thursday.

Father Ryan said Hunter’s parents are finding it very difficult “because you don’t expect a healthy child to go out one moment and never to come back in again”.

“His parents are finding it very, very difficult and Alisha is expecting another child in the coming weeks so you have birth on one side of their life and death on the other side and just devastation and confusion.

“In an instant, life changed for the Molloys and indeed all those who knew this little boy Hunter and it’s a tragedy that has come upon them and devastation in their lives at this moment. There are no words that can relieve the pain at this time,” Father Ryan said.

“In an instant, life changed and will never be the same again because of the tragic accident that happened and the life of a young 18-month-old child who has died and has left his parents, his sisters, his family and an entire community in grief.

“And in the turmoil of emotions they are finding it difficult to cope, but with the help and support of their own families and the wider community they will get through the coming days that are going to be difficult for them.”

Meanwhile, tributes continue to flow for little Hunter, with one person writing on social media: “Rest in peace little Hunter Molloy who at 18 months tragically lost his life in a car accident in Co Clare to become the 72nd road crash victim of 2024.

“May God give you the best bed in heaven and pray for his mum, dad, sisters, relatives and friends and the whole Traveller community. We all feel your family’s pain and loss. Gone but never forgotten little angel.”

Another wrote: “Heaven has gained another angel in beautiful Hunter. Sleep tight gorgeous Hunter,” while blue hearts have been posted on social media with people writing: “Blue hearts for baby Hunter James Molloy. RIP Blondie.”

Funeral arrangements for Hunter have yet to be announced.
