Dog owner plunges into a river after being dragged in

This is the hilarious moment a woman was unexpectedly pulled into a river by her excited pup as they enjoyed a walk along the bank.

Steph Cousins, 35, was enjoying an idyllic stroll in the Peak District, with her dog Winnie – but was plunged into the water while playing with her pet.

She was throwing sticks for the German Shorthaired Pointer when the pooch pulled its lead taut – and dragged Steph in.

Footage of the amusing accident captured a laughing Steph hauling herself out of the water as she waved to the camera.

‘Did you get that on video?’ she asked her friend, who was filming.

Just moments before, she captured scenic footage of Steph watching her dog playfully paddle in and out of the water.

The owner, a teaching assistant from Derbyshire, said five-year-old Winnie ‘loves it’ when she throws sticks in the river.

‘This is the first time she’s taken me in with her,’ she joked.

Steph revealed that while her slip down the bank appeared swift and sudden, it dragged on in her head.

“It honestly felt like slow motion,’ she admitted.

‘It didn’t happen as fast in my head as it did on the video.’

She though that she ‘might be able to save this’ when her foot slipped through – to no avail.

‘It was too late,’ Steph continued. ‘And I just thought I’m going in!’

Later in the clip, her friend asked Steph if she’s cold – as she sat there, soaking wet on the grass – but she brushed any concerns off by saying she’d dry off in the car.

It comes as researchers have found that interacting with dogs generates electrical activity in the part of the brain associated with relaxation, concentration, creativity and attention.

The team, from Konkuk University in South Korea, recruited 30 adult participants for their study.

Five-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer Winnie couldn’t contain her excitement in the hilarious video

They were asked to perform eight different activities with a well-trained four-year-old poodle, including playing with a handheld toy, giving her treats and taking pictures with her.

Analysis revealed the strength of alpha brainwaves increased when participants played with and walked the dog, reflecting a state of relaxation.

Meanwhile grooming or gently massaging the poodle saw an increase in beta brainwaves – a boost typically linked to heightened concentration.

Those taking part in the study also reported feeling significantly less fatigued, depressed and stressed after all dog-related activities.

The team said that although ‘fondness’ for the animal may have played a role in generating these feelings, the findings add to evidence that canine therapy – often used in hospitals, schools and prisons – can help reduce anxiety and stress.

Writing in the journal Plos One, the authors said: ‘This study demonstrated that specific dog activities could activate stronger relaxation, emotional stability, attention, concentration and creativity by facilitating increased brain activity.’
