substitute teacher assaulted student at leesburg high school: police

A substitute teacher is charged with one count of assault and battery after he was accused of assaulting a student at Tuscarora High School in September. The student did not report any injuries, the Leesburg Police Department said.

LEESBURG, VA — A substitute teacher at Tuscarora High School assaulted a student last month, according to the Leesburg Police Department.

The student, who police only identified as a teenage juvenile, did not report any injuries.

The teacher, 68-year-old Hans Mirazaei is charged with one misdemeanor count of assault and battery. He was issued a summons on Sunday and was later released by authorities.

If convicted, Mirazaei could face up to 1 year in jail, based on Virginia’s sentencing guidelines.

The assault occurred around 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, the Leesburg Police Department said. Investigators determined that Mirazaei “forcefully removed” a student from a classroom. The school resource officer learned of the assault and opened an investigation alongside Loudoun County Public Schools.

“Pursuant to the report of the assault, Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) removed Mirzaei from the building, in accordance with their Human Resources and Talent Development policies and procedures,” the Leesburg Police Department said.

The case was then presented to the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, and Mirazaei was charged.

Anyone with more information about the assault can contact Officer M. Hackney at 703-771-4500 or at mhackney@leesburgva.gov.
