Several postponementsThe red-green government approved the construction of the Nordic region’s largest art museum in 2013. It was supposed to open in the autumn of 2020, but after several postponements, it should be ready next year. The new National Museum will house over 100,000 works over 55,000 square meters. “The new building gives us completely new opportunities to fulfill the National Museum’s task of making art accessible to anyone and everyone,” museum director Karen Hindsbo said.
Price tag of over NOK 6 billion
More than 5,000 works will be displayed in the permanent exhibition, including famous older paintings and contemporary art, fashion, design, textiles, handicrafts, and sculptures.
The price tag for the construction project is NOK 6.1 billion.
