Azimio to Ruto: Implement Nadco report before any other dialogue

Azimio has called for President William Ruto to implement the Nadco report before another set of dialogue is carried out in the country.

Minority Leader in the National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi said they strongly believe that dialogue is good for the country but it's good to demonstrate commitment and good faith whenever there are talks about matters of dialogue and national conversation.

Wandayi said the starting point for another round of dialogue or conversation, should come after fast-tracking implementation of the Nadco report.

He was reacting to President's Ruto recent remarks on the need for a national conversation for the nation that also includes the young people.

The Minority leader noted that it was unfortunate that almost seven months after the Nadco team concluded its report, it was yet to be implemented to date.

"Out of the nine Bills crafted by the Nadco team the IEBC amendment Bill is the only one that has been implemented based on my knowledge, the eight others are in limbo", he said.

He noted that this was a demonstration of a lack of good faith and commitment on the part of the government.

The Minority Leader said they have done their best as Azimio to push the agenda for the implementation of this report adding that the country has all it takes to be able to implement that report

"Let us see beginning Monday next week a commitment by the government to have the implementation fastrack as a demonstration of good faith and commitment before we can have another dialogue," he noted

"It's logical that before you conclude one aspect of the report before you embark on another".

He noted that the Nadco report contains comprehensive recommendations which if implemented could have addressed some of the issues being raised by Gen Z and other Kenyans.

He emphasized that as a country we must be serious sometimes so that we don't seem to be going in circles yet we know what needs to be done.

"It's not lack of knowledge of what's need to be done that is killing us but the lack of commitment to do that which is necessary," he added.

Five days ago in his address to the Media, President Ruto said he would ensure the conversation not only champions issue-based, policy-oriented and tribe-less dialogue but it will also provide a framework for the conversation to be processed and its outcomes implemented.

The President also said the conversation must be subjected to the rule of law.

"However, our national conversations on any subject matter must be conducted in a manner that respects and honours the foundational values upon which our nation is established, namely, constitutionalism, the rule of law and respect for institutions," he said.

The Nadco report was a product of partisan talks between President Rto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

This is following sustained anti-government protests and a myriad of proposals touching on legal and policy reform issues of concern to Kenyans.
