Hot sunny days in northern Vietnam will end starting Tuesday when a low-pressure area triggers rains and winds, while the mountains should be wary of flash floods and landslides.

Northern Vietnam has seen a widespread heat wave over the last two days, with temperatures ranging between 35-37 degrees Celsius.

U.S. weather forecast service AccuWeather anticipated Hanoi’s highest temperatures at the beginning of this week to be at 37 degrees, before dropping to 33 degrees by mid-week. High-altitude locations like Lao Cai’s Sa Pa would see temperatures gradually dropping to 18-20 degrees by the weekends.

Starting Tuesday, the heat would dial down in the north due to the impacts of a low-pressure area moving down from China, triggering rains and winds. The rains would mostly be focused from Tuesday to Thursday in the midlands and mountains of the north. People should watch out for flash floods and landslides, authorities warned.

Central Vietnam are seeing the effects of Foehn winds, causing heat waves that would maintain the highest temperatures in areas from Thanh Hoa to Binh Dinh at 36-38 degrees.

Southern Vietnam and the Central Highlands would see sunny days and little rain in the next two days. Starting from Wednesday, as the monsoon winds restore their strength, there would be heavy rains in the area, mostly at dusk. The highest temperatures in the Central Highlands would be at 29-32 degrees, and 32-34 degrees in southern Vietnam.
