Niger President Issues Rallying Cry After Military Coup - TaiwanPlus News

The president of Niger says his country will maintain its freedom and democracy. That's in response to the military coup that toppled his government late Wednesday night. Writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, President Mohammed Bazoom said his countries hard won gains will be safeguarded. But Zoom was arrested by members of his own guard in the presidential palace on Wednesday. Soldiers then announced on television that they'd remove him from power and suspended all institutions of the Republic. Niger is an important ally of Western countries in their fight against jihadi militants. The UN, the US and the EU have condemned the uprising.
