Excise policy case: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal sent to 14-day judicial custody of CBI

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Saturday sent Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody till July 12 in connection with the excise policy case.
While seeking direction to send the Delhi CM to judicial custody, advocate DP Singh appeared for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He alleged that during the police custody remand, Kejriwal had been examined/ interrogated. However, he did not cooperate with the investigation and knowingly gave evasive replies contrary to the evidence on record.
The CBI said that on being confronted with the evidence, Delhi CM did not give a reasonable and truthful explanation regarding the enhancement of the profit margin for wholesalers from 5 percent to 12 percent under the new Excise Policy of Delhi 2021-22, without any study or justification.

On Saturday, Delhi CM was produced by CBI. Sunita Kejriwal, Samantha Bharti, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Sanjay Singh, Dilip Pandey, and Madan Lal were present in the courtroom.
On June 26, the vacation judge sent Kejriwal to a 3-day custodial remand of CBI.
The CBI, on Tuesday, arrested the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Kejriwal after the vacation judge of the Delhi Court allowed the investigative agency to examine/interrogate him in the courtroom so that the agency could proceed with his formal arrest.
Also, the court asked the agency to place on record the material that they have for the Delhi CM’s arrest.
