John Wick director Chad Stahelski to helm 'Kill' Hollywood remake
Gory-action drama, 'Kill,' is getting a Hollywood remake. It will be remade by American filmmaker Chad Stahelski under his production company 87Eleven Entertainment. He directed all four John Wick movies, starring Keanu Reeves.
'Kill,' starring debutant actor Lakshya Lalwani, actor-choreographer Raghav Juyal, and Tanya Maniktala, is a violent saga of revenge. It is written and directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat. It is produced by Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta for Dharma Productions, along with Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain from Sikhya Entertainment. It will be released in India on July 5 and in the US on July 4.
"'Kill' is one of the most vivid, wild, and creative action movies I've seen recently," said 87Eleven Entertainment's Chad Stahelski. He added, "Nikhil delivers relentless action sequences that need to be seen by as wide an audience as possible. It's exciting to be developing an English-language versionâwe have big shoes to fill and I'm looking forward to working with Nikhil, Karan, Apoorva, Guneet, and Achin to achieve that."
'Kill' remake was announced by Adam Fogelson, Chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. In a joint statement, the producers of the film called Kill's Hollywood remake a "big win for Indian cinema."
The statement read, "Partnering with Lionsgate, the award-winning studio behind genre-defining action movies, has been incredibly gratifying. This announcement, coming before the original film's release, is unprecedented and a big win for Indian cinema. We are truly honoured."
'Kill' had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film's synopsis on TIFF's official website reads, "In Nikhil Nagesh Bhat's relentless martial arts thriller, a passenger train bound for New Delhi becomes a bloody battleground of brutal close-quarters combat as a pair of commandos square off against a 40-strong army of invading bandits."
The film's lead actor, Lakshya Lalwani, was originally supposed to debut in the now-cancelled KJo-produced film 'Dostana 2.'
