Indian Women's Cricket Team Create World Record

The Indian women's cricket team broke the Sri Lanka men's massive world record for the most runs scored by any team in a single day of a test match. Sri Lanka had made a total of 509 runs and lost nine wickets on day 2 of a Test match against Bangladesh in 2002 at Colombo. The only other instance of a team scoring 500 runs in a single day of play was Ben Stokes-led England making 506/4 against Pakistan in Rawalpindi in 2022.

This is also the first instance of 500 runs being scored in a single day of a women's test match. The previous record was 475 in a New Zealand-England test in 1935 in Christchurch, in which New Zealand made 44 runs and England made 431. The only other instance apart from these two of a team making more than 400 runs in a single day of play in a women's test was when India made 410 runs against England in Navi Mumbai last year.
