'He has forgotten that Congress ... ': BJP reacts to Lalu Yadav's Emergency era remarks
NEW DELHI: BJP on Saturday launched a scathing attack on RJD leader Lalu Yadav after his remarks regarding the Emergency era made headlines.
"The departed souls of Jayaprakash Narayan and Rammanohar Lohiya must be in great pain after listening to the new interpretation of the Emergency era by Lalu Prasad Yadav," said BJP leader Nikhil Anand.
"The political life of Lalu Yadav has almost ended, now he wants to ensure the safety and security of his family and his son in the Congress collision. That is why he has resorted to such a petty level," he added.
Calling the grand old party a "blot in the name of democracy", Anand said, "Like a stooge, he has forgotten that Congress is a blot in the name of democracy."
This came in response to an editorial penned by Lalu Yadav and Nalin Verma titled "The Sangh Silence in 1975" While the article acknowledged that opposition leaders endured immense hardships during Emergency, it added that the then prime minister and Congress leader Indira Gandhi never abused the opposition.
Taking an apparent dig at the BJP government, Yadav said, "Indira Gandhi put many of us behind bars, but she never abused us. Neither she nor her ministers called us "anti-national" or "unpatriotic".
President Droupadi Murmu's recent remarks criticising the imposition of the Emergency during her address to the joint sitting of Parliament have prompted reactions from leaders within the INDIA bloc.
