Actor-turned-politician Vijay on Friday said that what the country needed the most now was good leaders.
Talking to school students who had scored high marks in the recently held Tenth and Twelfth Board Exams, Vijay said, “Some of you might have clarity on what you want to become. Be it doctors, engineers or any other field. Every field is a good field. Whichever field you choose, if you apply yourselves one hundred per cent, irrespective of who you are, you will succeed.”
‘Pick A Field of Your Choice’
The actor urged students to pick a field of their choice and learn about the options that are available in the respective field. “Please pick a field you like. Learn about the options that are available in that field. Seek advice from your parents, teachers and counsellors.”
The actor then went on to say that he would like to give a suggestion of his own in this regard.
“We all tend to pick a field based on the demand there is for it. There are plenty of doctors, engineers and lawyers. What we do not have and what we require more now are good leaders. I did not mean only the political field when I said leaders. I meant that whichever field you choose, if you strive hard, you can reach the top position. That is what I meant when I said we need more leaders.”
Why Must Politics Not Be A Career Option?
The actor also went on to raise the question as to why politics should not be a career option. “Why should politics not be a career option? It is my wish that politics be a career option,” he said, asking students, “Should those who are well educated come to politics or not? Should those who are well educated become leaders or not? For now, study. We will see the rest later.”
The actor also told students not to lose identity at any cost. “Say no to temporary pleasures and to drugs,” he said, and asked the students to repeat the sentences after him.
