Market at Close | Sensex, Nifty soar to record highs led by RIL and banks
The equity benchmark indices BSE Sensex, NSE Nifty and Nifty Bank indices all reached fresh intra-day life highs on Wednesday (June 26), continuing a trend of record closes.
The Nifty hit a new high of 23,890, while the Sensex climbed to 78,759 and the Nifty Bank to 52,988. By the end of the trading session, the Nifty had risen 148 points to 23,869 and the Sensex had gained 621 points to 78,674.
The Nifty Bank advanced by 265 points to close at 52,871, although the Midcap Index slipped by 123 points to 55,246.
From the Sensex basket, Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, UltraTech Cement, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance and Axis Bank were the major gainers. Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Tech Mahindra, Titan Company and Power Grid Corporation of India were the biggest laggards.
In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong are quoted with gains. US markets ended mostly higher on Tuesday (June 25). Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.45% to $85.39 a barrel.
The BSE benchmark jumped 712.44 points or 0.92% to settle at a new closing peak of 78,053.52 on Tuesday. The Nifty went up by 183.45 points or 0.78% to settle at a record closing peak of 23,721.30.
