MP plans anti-leak law with Rs 1 crore fine, 10-yr jail
BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh govt is mulling a tough new law to deter paper leaks, proposing a fine of Rs 1 crore and 10 years' imprisonment. The school education department has prepared the draft and sent it to the law department, sources said, adding that it has already been discussed at the senior secretaries committee.
According to the draft, in case of a paper leak, the examination centre, service provider and anyone found involved in irregularities will be directly held responsible. Apart from the steep fine and 10-year jail term, the property of the convicts will be attached or confiscated, sources said.
The govt hopes to table the bill in the ensuing assembly session. If it can't, the law will be implemented in form of ordinance, sources said.
Madhya Pradesh has a dark history of examination scams, from Vyapam to alleged irregularities in the 2023 patwari recruitment. The state govt wants to bring about a law to cover all exams - from school boards to competitive tests and recruitment.
The exercise began around three months ago with the initial aim of covering school and board exams. But once the NEET paper leak scandal erupted, authorities quickly decided to expand its ambit to cover every kind of examination.
