In July there is only one national holiday and both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will be closed to observe Muharram.
Stock Market Holidays July 2024
This year, Muharram is falling on July 17 and the BSE has issued a notification on the suspension of trade in the following sectors: equity, equity derivatives, SLB, currency derivatives, and interest rate derivatives on this day.

The NSE supports trading throughout the year to provide a perfect trading experience. During standard weekday trading hours, traders have a six-hour and fifteen-minute window from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Notably, the equities, equity derivative, and SLB segments will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
The NSE holiday calendar includes national and cultural observances in addition to weekends. The NSE will also remain closed on July 17, 2024, in observance of Muharram.
Significance of Muharram
The Shia Muslim community mourns the loss of Hussain Ibn Ali, Ali's son and Prophet Muhammad's grandson, at the Battle of Karbala. Karbala is a renowned pilgrimage destination in Iraq.
