Higuita, the Dhyan Sreenivasan-Suraj Venjaramoodu political thriller that released to mixed reviews and its fair share of controversy in 2023, is finally getting its OTT release according to the makers of the film.

The OTT Release Date

The makers officially released an OTT trailer of the film online on June 25, announcing that the film would be streaming on the Saina Play platform from June 28. The new trailer showcases some previously-unseen cuts from the film. The film also stars Manoj K. Jayan, Indrans, Abu Salim, and Vineeth Kumar in primary roles.

The Title Controversy

Higuita is a political thriller that features Suraj Venjaramoodu and Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead. The film has been scripted and directed by Hemanth G Nair, and released to mixed reviews, mainly positive, in early 2023.

The film also courted controversy over its title when popular writer and speaker NS Madhavan publicly expressed his distaste at the use of the title of the film, which was also the title of a short story written by the popular writer on Colombian football player Rene Higuita. This controversy spread like wildfire across Kerala, a state known for its extreme love for football. The writer went on to lodge a complaint with the Film Chamber of Commerce for rights to use the title. However, the Film Chamber ruled in Hemanth's favour after holding discussions with the team and let them keep with the title.
