Hackers have made good on their threat to release hundreds of files from Spider-Man 2 developer Insomniac, including all their future plans.

There have been hacking incidents before with video games, most infamously with GTA 6 and Rockstar Games, but also Capcom and others. However, never has so much specific, and unexpected, information been leaked before, as with Spider-Man 2 developer Insomniac.

Amongst the leaked data is concept art, screenshots, and even gameplay footage for the upcoming Wolverine game, as well as a complete plot breakdown, details of marketing deals, voice cast information, and more.

We can’t show any of the images or footage here for legal reasons, but also because it isn’t fair on Insomniac. Although obviously it’s going to be everywhere over the internet from now on, including details on six new games they’re working on.

The immediate problem is that there’s suddenly so much information out there that it’s easy to just make up anything and pretend it’s part of the leak. However, many of the games have associated screenshots, concept art, and even early footage.

Other data files apparently include staff’s personal information and general company information from Sony, who own Insomniac, regarding the PlayStation business.

The most eye-catching information though is Insomniac’s supposed game line-up, up until 2031. Although even assuming it’s authentic, it’s worth pointing out that plans often changes and it’s very common for unannounced games to be cancelled partway through development.

At the moment though the already hinted at Venom half-sequel is scheduled for autumn 2025, Wolverine for autumn 2026, Spider-Man 3 (which apparently may be split into two parts) for autumn 2028, a new Ratchet & Clank for autumn 2029, an X-Men game for autumn 2030, and an unspecified new IP in 2031 or 2032.

That is a lot of games, most of them Marvel related, but then Insomniac is now a very large developer and given their recent success it’s no wonder Sony wants them to go all-in on more Marvel games.

The hackers’ original plan was to sell off the information but in these cases the video game publisher never pays, so as not to encourage further attacks.

Hacker group Rhysida claims that 98% of the stolen information has been placed online, implying that 2% of it was sold – although to who is not clear.

Although this is clearly very damaging to Sony and Insomniac it now paints an enormous target on the hackers’ back, who Sony will be attempting to ensure do not have a merry Christmas at all.
