Soaps fans ‘fed up’ as Emmerdale, Coronation Street and EastEnders cancelled

Emmerdale, Coronation Street and EastEnders have all been affected by the ongoing UEFA European Football Championship, and soaps fans are not impressed.
Since the tournament kicked off on Friday 14 June, those loyal to their favourite soaps have been wondering when EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale are on TV, after the irregular schedules left many switching on the TV only to find their beloved characters have been swapped for footballers.
Last week saw Coronation Street and Emmerdale pulled from ITV for the second time running, while BBC’s EastEnders has also been affected by the changes in programming.
Unfortunately for soaps fans, there’s more chaos on the horizon, with all three soaps affected by the games taking place next week. And the news hasn’t gone down well.

Users responding to a Metro.co.uk Facebook post about the shake-up described how they are ‘fed up of football’, while one Reddit user said they are ‘sick of it’.
Another added: ‘As someone who really dislikes football this is really annoying!’
While many had no problems with the football airing, they wished their favourite soap could maintain the same time slot alongside the matches.
Facebook user Jackie Woodford asked, ‘Why on earth don’t they put the soaps on itv X’, while Maddy Harding said, ‘Why do we have so many channels that they could change but they always pick itv and mess with a decent schedule of soaps.’

Reddit users agreed, with Charming_Elegant writing on the platform: ‘Never did understand why they can’t move the soaps to itv2 when footballs on.’
Fellow user SoggyWotsits added: ‘We’ve got all these Freeview channels and they put the football on the main ITV one. Put the football somewhere else…’
Meanwhile, others thought that the Euros should have its own separate channel or be aired on a dedicated sports channel instead.
But it’s not just the soaps that have been affected by the ongoing tournament, with shows including ITV’s Loose Women and BBC’s The Repair Shop pulled from schedules in recent days too.

And unfortunately for those who are missing seeing their favourite Weatherfield, Walford and Yorkshire residents on screen, it’s likely that schedules will continue to be switched around until the final match takes place, on 14 July.
But that doesn’t mean there’s not plenty to look forward to for soap fans. Emmerdale viewers have been cheering on Charity Dingle as she gets closer to uncovering the truth about Tom’s abuse of Belle, while Corrie fans are hoping that the net will close in on Lauren’s killer Joel.
Elsewhere, things have been getting interesting in Albert Square with the arrival of three new Mitchells – one of whom is set to rival Phil as head of the clan.
