Open thread: What’s the first thing you will be looking for in Lions training camp?
We are getting there. Now late into June, we are less than a month away from when the Detroit Lions will report for their 2024 training camp.
Rookies will report on July 20, while veterans will arrive in Allen Park on July 23. There may not be a ton of starting positions up for grabs, there are still going to be plenty of heated competitions taking place as players work towards roster spots and starting positions.
Today’s Question of the Day is:
What’s the first thing you will be watching for in training camp?
My Answer: I want to see how this retooled secondary looks. There were so many pieces added during the offseason that the Lions have gone from having only a handful of options in 2023, to a boatload of them in 2024.
With the additions of players like cornerbacks Carlton Davis III, Amik Robertson, Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr, this room went from one where players more or less fell into starting roles, to one where every snap is going to be earned.
Ask any coaching staff around the league, and they will tell you that competition is everything. However, with a coaching staff that is full of former players, the Lions may lean into that approach even more than other teams around the NFL.
Veterans like Davis, Robertson, Emmanuel Moseley and others may get the first crack at running with the ones, but make no mistake about it, everyone will get their chances to prove themselves.
How about you? What is the first thing you will be looking for once training camp gets rolling later in July? Let us know by leaving a comment with your pick at the bottom of the page.
