Shares of Maharatna PSU Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. turned ex-date today following the announcement of bonus issue. Earlier in May, BPCL announced the issuance of bonus shares at a 1:1 ratio. This means that for each share retained, stockholders will receive one more share.

Earlier in May, the company said in an exchange filing, “Pursuant to Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations & Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, we wish to inform that the Board has recommended issue of Bonus Shares in the ratio of 1:1 i.e. one new bonus equity share of Rs. 10/- each for every one existing equity shares of Rs. 10/- each fully paid up subject to the approval of shareholders through Postal Ballot.”

According to an exchange filing, the company fixed the record date for bonus issue on June 22.

“The Board has fixed Saturday, 22nd June 2024 as Record date to determine the eligibility of shareholders to receive bonus shares,” the company said in an exchange filing.

Bonus shares are additional or extra shares that a company issues to its current shareholders in a specific ratio. The board decides on the bonus ratio, which is then approved by the company's members. Once the bonus shares are awarded, the market price of equity shares is modified to reflect the bonus ratio. A bonus issue has no impact on the entire investment value or the company's market capitalisation.

Along with this, the board of directors of the company also recommended a final dividend of Rs 21 to its investors for FY24.

“The Board of Directors has recommended a final dividend of Rs. 21/- per equity share of face value of Rs.10/-each (pre-bonus), which translates into final dividend of Rs.10.5/- per equity share of face value of Rs.10/- per equity share) (post-bonus), subject to the approval of the shareholders at the ensuing Annual General Meeting (AGM). The final dividend would be paid within 30 days from the date of its declaration at the AGM,” BPCL stated in an exchange filing.

The stock opened at Rs 317.00 per share and closed at Rs 307.80 per share, down 1.71% from the previous close of Rs 313.15 per share on BSE.
