Nasser Hussain on India's ICC Trophy drought: ‘If they win one, they can get on a run'

Former England captain Nasser Hussain has backed India to get on a roll once they end their ICC Trophy drought. Notably, India haven't won an ICC event ever since their Champions Trophy triumph in 2013. They've come close to winning a major title on several occasions as they reached the knockout stages of ten out of the last 11 events.

They've reached the finals on five occasions since then but have failed to clinch the title on every occasion. Commenting on India's dry run in major events, Hussain said that they're just one tournament win away from getting on a winning run given the talented pool of youngsters they have in their team.

"If India win one, if India can one tournament now after how many years, 11 years? Yeah, 11 years since Champions Trophy 2013. You feel especially with the younger players like Gill and Jaiswal coming into the side. They may get on a run but they need to win that first one," said Hussain on Star Sports.

Meanwhile, India have reached the semi final of the T20 World Cup 2024 having been on an unbeaten run in the tournament. They finished on the top of Group A after beating Ireland, Pakistan and USA. They had a washout against Canada which made them finish with seven points from four matches.

Later in the Super 8 stages, the Rohit Sharma-led side got the better of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia and topped the Group 1 with six points from three matches. Captain Rohit Sharma has been in phenomenal form being the highest run scorer of the team with 196 runs from seven innings at an average of 39.20 and a strike rate of 159.34.

Jasprit Bumrah's phenomenal form with the ball

With the ball, Arshdeep Singh has risen as a surprise package being the highest wicket taker with 15 wickets to his name from six innings at an average of 11.86 and an economy of 7.41. Apart from his star speedster Jasprit Bumrah has been the second highest wicket taker of the team with 11 wickets from six innings at an average of 8.54 and an economy of 4.08.

The Men in Blue will be eager to beat England in the second semi final to get one step closer to ending their ICC Trophy drought.
