Report: Bayern Munich’s move for Jonathan Tah is on the verge of collapse
According to a report by Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), Jonathan Tah may not be coming to Bayern Munich after all. The center-back’s move to Munich is on the verge of collapse as his parent club, Bayer Leverkusen, refuses to budge on the transfer price.
Bayern Munich reportedly don’t want to pay more than €20m, seeing as Tah had an €18m release clause just last year. Leverkusen, meanwhile, are demanding twice that number — €40m. Complicating matters is the fact that Bayern need to sell defenders to make room for Tah. Matthijs de Ligt has been put up for sale, and the report mentions another defender also needs to leave — possibly Dayot Upamecano? — which makes sense given that the club just signed Hiroki Ito from Stuttgart.
It seems that this whole thing could throw a wrench into Max Eberl’s plans to acquire a new backline. The thing is, it would be easy for Bayern to wait a year and come back to acquire Tah on a free transfer, assuming they really want him that badly. Given the wealth of center-back talent at their disposal, this pursuit of Jonathan Tah doesn’t make much sense.
