This week, it was Emily and Kiaron's turn to wine and dine.

Read on to find out what happened...

Emily, 48

Vital Statistics

 Single, no children.

Current Role

Coach helping women with emotional overeating.

Would Like To Meet

He's got to be funny and kind, with emotional intelligence.

 Dating Past?

I was engaged to my partner of eight years but we split up six years ago. I was shocked and devastated. I've also just come out of a six-month relationship.

Pre-Date Nerves?

I'm nervous to see what other people say about us after we've appeared in the newspaper, but I wasn't nervous about the actual date at all!

First Impressions?

I knew straight away from Kiaron's smile and his manners that we were going to have a good time. He was such a gentleman. Even when I popped to the bathroom early on, I returned and he'd given me the better seat at the table, asking if I preferred to sit facing the view. That was a nice thing to do.

Easy To Talk To?

I haven't laughed so much in ages. We chatted about our jobs, dogs, our travels — we both love Croatia and the Amalfi coast — and we both enjoy murder mystery novels. Kiaron's an author and has written a murder mystery himself; I'm going to buy a copy.

The only possible thing we could clash on is politics: he's a Tory and I'm a socialist. But we are of the same mind that you can disagree on politics and still get on with someone — live and let live.

Embarrassing Moments?

Nothing that I thought was embarrassing.

Did sparks fly?

I never think romantic sparks fly on a first date because it's just too soon. But I laughed so much and he was such a gentleman, walking me to the station afterwards. We had a little kiss — just a peck on each cheek — to say goodbye.

Would you like to meet again?

Yes, we're hoping to go out for a dog walk together in the next few weeks.

What do you think he thought of you?

He told me that he thought I was lovely, gorgeous and funny. We were chatting for nearly four hours and the time whizzed by so I think that's a good sign.

Would your family like him?

Yes, absolutely. I have no idea why he's single, he's so engaging, and actually listens — not all men do!

Emily's verdict: 8/10

Liked?

Definitely the laughter.

Regrets?

None at all.

Coffee or cab?

Coffee.

Kiaron, 55

Vital Statistics

Single, no children.

Current Role

Author.

Would Like To Meet

Someone rich? No, that's a joke. I'd like someone who likes to laugh, is happy, gregarious and confident.

Dating Past?

I was engaged to my partner of 16 years but we split up just before Covid. It was amicable as we both realised we had become more like friends. Since then, I’ve tried dating apps but I hate meeting people that way.

Pre-Date Nerves?

Not at all. I don’t get nervous about this kind of thing.

First Impressions?

It was quite funny as the waiters showed me to the wrong table. When I finally did meet Emily, I thought she was classy and smart. I reached in for a handshake but she leaned forward and we had a double kiss on the cheeks, which was nice.

Easy To Talk To?

From the moment we sat down and she made a very cheeky joke about my beer frothing over, I knew we were going to get along. I think her job helping women with their self-image is interesting and I admire the fact she doesn’t give a hoot about online trolls who attack her for her forthright views.

She’s from Essex originally and for some reason I kept doing terrible Michael Caine impersonations, even though he’s not from Essex. But she seemed to find them funny. She’s the sort of woman who would tell me if she didn’t — I liked that about her.

Embarrassing Moments?

I knocked over a glass and it smashed everywhere.

Did sparks fly?

Yes, it was just so lovely. In terms of ripping each other’s clothes off at the table, that certainly didn’t happen in The Ivy, but who knows? I certainly felt a connection with her.

See her again?

Yes, absolutely. I’ve already texted suggesting a dog walk and pub lunch.

What do you think she thought of you?

Probably that I’m a bit of an idiot. I had a couple more glasses of wine than she did, so I don’t know how she will feel about me. We had a quick kiss goodbye at the end and swapped numbers.

Would your family like her?

What’s not to like? She’s funny, genuine and doesn’t take herself too seriously.

Kiaron's verdict: 10/10

Liked?

We had the same sense of humour.

Regrets?

None at all.

Coffee or cab?

Coffee.
