Tips On How To Increase Distance By Controlling The Spin Driver
So a good way to maximize distance, OK, and improve your accuracy is to try and reduce the spin on the ball. Obviously you can have too little spin, but generally in my experience, golfers have too much spin with their drivers. So they're hitting down on the ball too much, which is creating too much spin and it costs a lot of yardage. Very important regarding tee height that you tee it nice and highlight this. I see a lot of golfers. Teeing it down, the lower you tee it, that's going to encourage you to hit down on the ball too much. The angle of attack will be 2345 degrees down and that's what creates excessive spin. So just by teeing that ball higher, making sure that more or less half of the ball is above the top edge of the club, there is going to encourage you instinctive wise to really feel like you're going to hit up on the ball rather than down on the ball. And you can see here, when you tear it higher, the right shoulder starts to sit much lower, giving that nice shoulder tilt. So a nice simple drill you can do to start hitting up on the ball a little bit more after you've given yourself the correct tee high, of course, is use a golf ball box around about a foot in front of the ball that you're hitting. And this is a good indicator because if you're going to hit down on this, you can see how the club will hit down into the ball, maybe break the T peg if you're using a wooden one, and the club head will extend through into the box. If you've got the correct angle of attack of hitting this up, say one 2-3 degrees on the up, you can see how I'll strike the ball. And go above the box. So really simple measure of how your angle of attack is if you haven't got the launch monitors, etc. So let's set up, let's give that a go and see if I can miss the box. So nice tee shot straight down the middle, very little spin on it. It's going to give me plenty of run and I miss the box. So simple drill to reduce your spin, hit longer and straighter drives.
