Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who addressed a rally in Varanasi today, thanked the people for giving him a third term. PM Modi visited Varanasi for the first time since winning the seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which concluded earlier this month.
"Maa Ganga has taken me in her lap, I have become part of Varanasi," PM Modi said in his first visit to his Lok Sabha constituency after polls.
"People of Varanasi have not only chosen me as MP for third time but also as PM," Modi said while adding that “This election presents strength of Bharat before the world. Nowhere else in the world such a big election take place. In this election, 64 crore people cast their votes.”
PM Modi won the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections by a margin of 1,52,513. This vistory margin has significantly narrowed as compared to the 2019 and 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
In 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, PM Modi had won the 2019 Lok Sabha polls by a margin of 4,79,505 votes (45.2%). In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, he won by a margin of 3,71,784 votes (36.14 %).
PM Modi said, “This trust of yours is my biggest asset. This trust of yours inspires me to work hard for your service and to take the country to new heights. I will work hard day and night. I will make every effort to fulfil your dreams and your resolutions. I have considered farmers, youth, women and the poor as the strong pillars of developed India. I have started my third term with their empowerment. As soon as the government was formed, the first decision was taken related to farmers and poor families.”
Further, he said, “In very few country, it has rarely happened that the government makes hattrick, In India, it so happened 60 years ago, But public has given us their blessing for the third time to serve them.
PM Modi also lauded the Indian electoral system and said, "Indian voters are two and a half time more than the voters for entire European union countries, if they counted together. I thank people of Kashi for making this festival of democracy successful. I am thankful to the people of Kashi who elected the PM for the third time.”
17th Installment of PM-KISAN scheme launched
During his visit, the PM launched the 17th instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme. The prime minister reached Varanasi at around 4:30 pm today, and was facilitated by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath. This initiative aims to provide financial benefits totalling over Rs 20,000 crore to more than 9.26 crore farmers across the country.
According to the details, more than 2.5 crore farmers joined the event including those at 732 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), over 1 lakh Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies, and 5 lakh Common Service Centres across the country. On the 50 selected Krishi Vikas Kendras (KVKs), a special event is being organized where good number of farmers will join the event. On these centers, several Union Ministers will also visit and interact with the farmers.
The PM-KISAN scheme was launched in February 2019 to supplement the financial needs of all land-holding farmers subject to certain exclusion criteria of higher income status. Financial benefit of Rs 6,000 per year in three equal instalments, every four months, is transferred into the bank accounts of farmers’ families across the country through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. Till now over Rs 3.04 lakh crores has been disbursed to more than 11 Crore farmers across the nation and with this release, the total amount transferred to the beneficiaries since the inception of the scheme will cross well over Rs 3.24 lakh crores.
