'sochi samjhi ranneeti': when pm narendra modi predicted sam pitroda's return to indian overseas congress
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's prediction regarding Sam Pitroda's return to the Indian Overseas Congress has proven accurate. Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi had anticipated this move, describing it as a planned strategy by the Congress party.
"Aisa mujhe nahi lagta hai.. kyunki woh hona hota hai toh woh kuch din ke liye party se nikalte hain, phir party ke mukhyadhara me woh rehte hain.. jaise abhi woh unhone apne America me jo unke guru hain (referring to Sam Pitroda), unko abhi istifa dilwa diya, ab kuch din ke baad unko le lenge...toh ye unki ek sochi samjhi ranneeti hai, desh me bhram paida karna..." PM Modi had said in an interview to a private news channel.
On Wednesday, Sam Pitroda was re-appointed as the Indian Overseas Congress Chairman, a month after he stepped down over his alleged racist remarks. Pitroda stepped down as IOC chairperson on May 8 amidst controversy over comments he made.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticised the Congress sharply following Pitroda's re-appointment. BJP's IT cell chief, Amit Malviya, expressed his disapproval in a post on X, stating, "The tormentor of the middle class is back… Congress hoodwinks India, brings back Sam Pitroda soon after elections." Pitroda had sparked controversy by likening Indians in different regions to other ethnicities, saying those in the East resemble the Chinese and those in the South look like Africans.
In an interview with 'The Statesman', Pitroda reflected on India's democracy, noting, "We have survived 75 years in a very harmonious environment where people could coexist, despite occasional disputes. We have held together a country as diverse as India, where people in different regions have diverse appearances." He emphasised India's diversity in languages, religions, food habits, and customs, stating, "That's the India that I believe in, where everyone finds their place and compromises a little."
His remarks drew criticism from BJP leaders and some members of Congress allies, including the DMK.
