The ball is finally rolling on the Harry Potter series that has been in development for years at HBO. The show is expected to premiere in 2026 and the studio announced two main member who will shape up the web series. The upcoming Harry Potter series revealed Francesca Gardiner as the showrunner and Mark Mylod as director. Coincidentally, both were also producers on Succession and won Emmys for their role on the HBO drama. Here are all the pertinent details on the Harry Potter TV remake.

The official account of Warner Bros' streaming service Max unveiled on X (formerly Twitter), "All aboard the Hogwarts Express! Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod will executive produce the new HBO Original Series, Harry Potter, with Gardiner serving as showrunner and Mylod directing multiple episodes. Coming soon to Max."
Francesca Gardiner, who is writer and showrunner on the Harry Potter series, has previously worked on shows like His Dark Materials, Killing Eve and The Rook. Meanwhile, Emmy winner for Succession, Mark Mylod has also directed episodes of Game of Thrones, Shameless, The Affair as well as the feature film The Menu. This year, he directed a few episodes of the second season of The Last of Us due out in 2025.
The other new update for the Harry Potter series is that it won't just be available for streaming, it will also air on HBO when it premieres in two years. The TV reboot and other new shows like Welcome to Derry and Lanterns will be shown both on HBO and Max.
About the Harry Potter series
The Harry Potter reboot for the small screen was announced back in 2021. It will be a “faithful adaptation” of JK Rowling’s best-selling series about the wizarding world. However, the original trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint won't return in this new take. HBO had earlier stated, “The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail and much-loved characters Harry Potter fans have loved for over twenty-five years.”
