Jaideep Ahlawat gets candid on weight loss journey; admits shedding 26 ks for ‘Maharaj’ was 'painful'

Jaideep Ahlawat, known for his performances in projects like 'Paatal Lok', 'Raazi', and 'Jaane Jaan', underwent a remarkable physical transformation for his role in the new movie 'Maharaj'. His drastic physical transformation from a pot belly to a 6-pack, for his role as the godman Jadunath Maharaj, has left the internet swooning. In a recent interview with Puja Talwar, the actor candidly shared that getting his new physique was rather 'painful'.

Shedding light on the 'challenging' fitness journey, Jaideep said that it took a toll on him both physically and mentally. Speaking up about his 26Kg weightloss in just five months, he revealed that his transformation required immense dedication and perseverance. He expressed gratitude to his trainer, Prajwal Sir, director Sidharth P Malhotra, and everyone who believed in his ability to achieve this feat.

Shedding light on getting into the headspace of his character, he explained that 'Maharaj' viewed himself as superior to others. Convincing himself of this perspective and making it believable for the audience demanded considerable effort. He credited his director, writer, and costume designer for playing a crucial role in helping him achieve this authenticity.

Jaideep shared his transformation journey on Instagram, posting before-and-after pictures that showcased his remarkable weight loss—from 109.7 kg to 83 kg. His once-heavy frame had given way to a toned upper body and arms.

'Maharaj', is reportedly based on true events from pre-independence India. The film highlights the courage of Karsandas Mulji (played by Junaid Khan), a social reformer who challenged the status quo in a landmark legal battle.
