West Indies all-rounder Roston Chase opened up about his topsy-turvy ride and spoke about the day when he almost missed his team bus and then went on to win the game for West Indies. The co-hosts West Indies recorded a wholesome win by 9 wickets against the USA at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia on June 22, Saturday.
Chase starred for the Windies as he was adjudged as the Player of the Match. He registered the figures of 4-0-19-3 against the USA. This was the best figures recorded by the West Indies spinner in the T20Is and played a crucial role in restricting the USA to 128 runs.
Chase scalped a wicket on his very first ball, dismissing USA captain Aaron Jones for just 11 runs. He followed up with the wicket of lethal Corey Anderson. Chase picked up yet another wicket of Harmeet Singh, putting the West Indies side in a commanding position. The likes of Andre Russell and Alzarri Joseph also bowled well, snapping three and two wickets respectively. Chase tormented the middle-order with three wickets and the USA couldn't really come back from that damage.
"My best figures, to do it at home is a great feeling with all my friends and family watching. We spoke about it in the team meeting that it's our job as spinners to restrict them if they go well in the powerplay. Today I wasn't having the best of days, I almost missed the bus. Great place to play cricket here, it's a great stadium and the fans are always around. Our is to go and win this World Cup, we need to beat anyone in front of us," Chase told the broadcasters after the match.
The windies played extremely well and destroyed the USA side in their dreamland. In batting, Shai Hope was the star as he made 82 runs from just 39 balls. He was supported well by Nicholas Pooran who collected 27 runs from 12 balls. West Indies ended up chasing the total within 10.5 overs.
