Hyundai Inster EV SUV revealed

Hyundai has taken the wraps off of the Inster compact EV SUV, which is based on the same design language as the ICE-powered Casper. The Inster SUV will serve as Hyundai's entry-level EV in global markets. The folks at Hyundai have stated that the Inster will launch this summer with an additional model to join the family, which could possibly be the Creta EV, expected to arrive in India by 2025.

The Inster is based on the Casper SUV, but the platform has been extended by 230mm, 180mm of which has been added to the wheelbase. Also, the Capser is 3,595mm long, while the Inster is 3,825m long. Its height stands at 1,575mm while the wheelbase stands at 2,580mm. Apart from this, the Inster can be had with either 15-inch steel wheel, 15-inch alloy or 17-inch alloy wheels. Design-wise, it gets subtle differences in comparison to the Casper.

In terms of battery packs, this compact EV SUV comes with two options. The standard one comes with a 42kWh battery pack with a WLTP-certified range of over 300km. The long range version of the Inster comes with a 49kWh battery pack capable of delivering a range of around 350km (WLTP). The standard version of the Inster is powered by a front-mounted 96bhp motor, while the long range version is rated at 113bhp.

There are two 10.25-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system.

In terms of features, the Inster gets 10.25-inch screens for the infotainment system and instrument cluster. There are other goodies like a single-pane sunroof, 360-degree camera, ADAS, wireless phone charger, 64-colour ambient lighting and more. As of now, it is unclear if the Inster will make its way to India. However, given that it's under 4m and comes as a practicality-based offering, it would make a lot of sense of the Indian market as Tata Punch EV and Citroen eC3 rival.
