Air India to deploy Airbus A350-900 on Delhi-London Heathrow route starting September 1

Air India is all set to launch its wide-body A350-900 aircraft on the Delhi-London route from September 1. The airline will be operating two daily flights. As Air India seeks to enhance its international and domestic footprint, this development will mark the plane’s debut on an international long-haul route.

‘’The Boeing 777-300 ER and Boeing 777-300 ER Dreamliner will be replaced with the A350-900 on 14 out of 17 weekly flights. With this change, an additional 336 seats will be made available on the Delhi-London Heathrow route weekly,’’ the airline said in its release.

The airline CEO and MD Campbell Wilson stated,’’ The deployment of our flagship A350s planes and the B777s with upgraded cabin interiors for London Heathrow is a major milestone for Air India’’.

The Tata Group-owned airline’s A350-900 aircraft will offer premium economy-class seats on this route. It also plans to operate two daily flights from Delhi to London Heathrow with the same aircraft from September 1.

Around 40 A35O planes have been ordered by the airline, with six of them already providing services. Air India commenced adding the A350 planes to its fleet this year. These planes are used on both domestic and international flights.

The airline started using the A350-900 for international destination flights between Delhi to Dubai from May 1. At present, Air India is operating 31 weekly flights to London Heathrow, which includes 14 from Mumbai and 17 from Delhi. A total of 17 weekly flights for London Gatwick are offered by the airline from Goa, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, and Bengaluru. In addition, six flights to Birmingham weekly are also operated from Delhi and Amritsar.
