South Africa opener Quinton de Kock got his team off to a fiery start against England during Match 45 of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Friday, June 21 at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia. The wicketkeeper batter started his innings cautiously scoring one run off the first three balls.

He finally got his innings going by smashing Moeen Ali for a boundary and a six in the second over. The southpaw further took on Jofra Archer in the fourth over welcoming him with his trademark pull shot against to lunch him over fine leg for a six. He further clobbered a fullish delivery over long over for a massive six and later guided a short ball towards third man for a boundary.

The wicketkeeper batter further went on to complete his half-century off just 22 balls registering the second fastest fifty of the tournament. His innings almost came to an end, as he slog-swept Adil Rashid on the second ball of the ninth over which was caught by Mark Wood at deep square leg.

However, the on-field umpire referred to the third umpire to check the legitimacy of the catch and found out that the ball was grounded. Hence, De Kock was allowed to continue his innings.

He was eventually dismissed for 65 (38) by Archer as Jos Buttler took a brilliant catch in the 12th over. The southpaw smashed four fours and as many sixes in his innings helping South Africa get off to a blistering start.

Notably, it was the second consecutive half-century from the Proteas batter who earlier scored a brilliant 74 (40) against USA with the help of seven fours and five sixes. The 31-year-old will be eager to continue his form as South Africa march towards the semi final of the tournament.
