Dragon Age: The Veilguard Dev Says Game "Finally Bridges The Gap" When It Comes To Fun Combat

Former Dragon Age executive producer has nothing but praise for BioWare's next installment in the series, Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Veteran Mark Darrah, who left BioWare along with general manager Casey Hudson in December 2020, made his return to the company as a consultant on the upcoming Veilguard, and lucky for him he did as it seems as though he's having the time of his life with the game.
We had already heard from game director Corinne Busch, who revealed a little bit of info regarding how companion romance works. She said, "I might be playing a straight male character flirting with Harding, but I choose not to pursue a romance. She might get together with Taash," but now, Darrah sheds some light on how Veilguard's combat mechanics "bridges the gap" left over from its previous titles.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard's "Combat Is Actually Fun"
In an interview with GameInformer, Mark Darrah, who is the consultant on Dragon Age: The Veilguard, had a lot of great things to say about BioWare's upcoming fourth major game in the Dragon Age franchise.
"What I see from Veilguard is a game that finally bridges the gap," said Darrah after gushing about how much fun combat is now compared to how it was in previous entries. Darrah said that combat in previous Dragon Age games "got to the realm of 'combat wasn't too bad' ", but now the formula seems to be just right by injecting a big dose of entertainment.
"You have the focus on Rook, on your character, but still have that control and character coming into the combat experience from the other people in your party." expressed Darrah. Echoing his sentiments, BioWare's general manager, Gary McKay, said that he had witnessed Veilguard's combat mechanics throughout its development and now loves how fluid it is without losing the deep RPG structure that the game is known for.
"I love that balance of real-time fluid action, but also the ability to have the depth in the RPG, not just in terms of pause-and-play, but the depth in terms of how you bring your companions into the battlefield."
Dragon Age: The Veilguard doesn't have a release date as yet, but we do know it launches sometime in the Fall of this year on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
