NFL analyst Adam Rank has high praise for Carolina Panthers GM Dan Morgan, especially regarding his upgrades to the offensive line. Morgan, aiming to protect quarterback Bryce Young better, prioritized strengthening the trenches after a dismal previous season. The Panthers' offensive line, plagued by injuries and poor performance, needed a revamp, and Morgan delivered despite financial constraints. Rank noted, "Last year, the [Carolina] Panthers offensive line struggled to protect [Bryce] Young, who was sacked 62 times (second most in the NFL behind Sam Howell).”
Rank highlighted Morgan's strategic free agency moves, “The team wasted no time in free agency bringing in some viable protection for the young quarterback.” Particularly, the signing of Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis. Hunt’s four-year, $100 million contract and Lewis’s four-year, $53 million deal signify significant investments aimed at bolstering the line's interior. Rank added, "I’m telling you, bringing in [Dave] Canales and rebuilding the interior with veterans [Robert] Hunt and [Damien] Lewis were great moves by GM Dan Morgan."
These additions are expected to provide Young with much-needed protection and support the team's run-heavy strategy under Canales. While the success of these moves depends on factors like Austin Corbett's transition to center and Ikem Ekwonu's bounce-back, the early signs are promising. Morgan's efforts have already begun to win over fans, setting high expectations for the upcoming season.
