Kamal Hasaan says he was a technician on Amitabh Bachchan’s Sholay, responds as Big B gifts him Kalki 2898 AD ticket: ‘I wish this happened…’
At the grand promotional event of their upcoming film Kalki 2898 AD, the film's producer, C Aswani Dutt of Vijayanthi Films, handed over the first day first show ticket of the Nag Ashwin directorial to Amitabh Bachchan, following a tradition followed by the Telugu film industry. Bachchan, in return, gifted the ticket to his “friend and brother”, co-star Kamal Haasan.
Kamal expressed joy and honour on receiving the ticket from Amitabh himself and shared an anecdote from the time he worked on Amitabh's Sholay (1975) as a film technician and had to wait for three weeks until he could watch the film.
He said, “I wish this had happened four to five decades ago as I waited for three weeks to watch Sholay. I hope there are many more fans who must be waiting for weeks to see the film like I did for Sholay. I never thought I'll get the first day first show ticket from Mr Amitabh Bachchan. I was a film technician and now I'm an actor, and nothing much has changed.”
Kamal Haasan also opened up about his working experience on the film. Kamal said she plays a “sage with bad thoughts” in Kalki 2898 AD but he wants to play an out and out bad guy.
He said, “We had a lot to talk about (through the look), and also not look like something else that I had done already or somebody else has done already. I thought I had a fantastic idea and I had not seen any images of the film. So, I thought I would dress myself up in such a way that people will turn around and look at me. I was like, 'I'll do research', and I got to know that Amit ji is doing it. Then I thought, I'll come with an armour, to which I was told that Prabhas has got that (referring to Deepika Padukone's character). I didn't want to be pregnant in the film, otherwise I would've tried that as well,” he added.
Revealing what went behind his look in the sci-fi thriller, he said, “This get up took a lot of time. We traveled to LA, we failed a couple of times before we arrived on the acceptable look. So, it's a collaboration, and I hope the audience will react the same way we did when we saw the first look.”
Nag Ashwin's Kalki 2898 AD also stars Prabhas and Deepika Padukone. The film is scheduled to be released in cinemas on June 27.
