Tamil Nadu CM Stalin announces new international airport in Hosur

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday announced the plan to build a new international airport in Hosur, an industrial city in the Krishnagiri district.
In the State Assembly, Stalin announced that the airport would be built on nearly 2,000 acres, having the capacity to handle 30 million passengers annually.
The Chief Minister said that the city has been attracting increasing investments in the past few years, adding that the DMK-led government is implementing various projects to establish modern infrastructure in the region, to make it a key economic centre.
“A new master plan for Hosur city is nearing completion. To boost the socio-economic development of Hosur, Krishnagiri, and Dharmapuri, it is necessary to establish an airport in Hosur,” Stalin said.
Dr TRB Rajaa, Minister for Industries, expressed profound gratitude to Stalin for his ‘dream project’. For a long time, Rajaa had been advocating for an airport in Hosur.
During his tenure at the State Planning Commission, Rajaa thoroughly analysed the region during the formulation of policies for the EV, advanced manufacturing, and tourism sectors, read a statement.
“The announcement of the new airport in Hosur is a monumental step forward for the region. This project will greatly enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth, benefiting not only Hosur but also neighbouring districts such as Dharmapuri and Salem, while also providing a significant boost to various parts of Bengaluru,” Rajaa said.
He hoped that the new airport would foster a "twin-city ecosystem with Bengaluru, propelling growth in both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka."
The latest announcement by the state government comes after Karnataka began scouting for land for another airport in Bengaluru. It is likely to be built on Tumakuru Road, reports said.
The Hosur city currently boasts connectivity to EXIM gateways and is not far away from other business hubs, including the capital city of Chennai as well as Tiruvallur, Sriperumbudur, and Coimbatore.
Several big companies such as Tata Electronics, TVS, Ashok Leyland, Titan, and Rolls-Royce (IAMPL) have established operations in this area, the official statement noted.
Dr Jeyaranjan, Vice Chairperson of the State Planning Commission, has termed this decision a ‘game-changer’ for Hosur.
“The airport will undoubtedly enhance the region's connectivity and attract further investments, solidifying Hosur's position as a major industrial and economic hub,” Jeyaranjan stated.
