Despite captivating audiences with her performances in films like '1942: A Love Story' and 'Dil Se..,' Manisha Koirala's path to Bollywood stardom wasn't always smooth. In fact, director Vidhu Vinod Chopra once delivered a blunt critique, calling her acting skills lacking. This surprising revelation sheds light on Koirala's determination and the journey that led her to become a beloved actress.
Manisha Koirala has made a lasting impact on her fans. Despite gaining millions of admirers over the years for her many movies, she faced criticism from director Vidhu Vinod Chopra early in her career. He asked her to take a break and improve her acting skills within 24 hours.
In a chat with Pinkvilla, Manisha Koirala talked about her early career days and working with Vidhu Vinod Chopra. She stated, “There was an incident during 1942: A Love Story. During my first reading of the scene, I was horrible, and Vidhu Vinod Chopra clearly told me, 'You are very bad.' So, I requested that he give me 24 hours. If, even then, you don't find me good, I'll accept it."
Continuing the conversation, Manisha mentioned that, after hearing the director's criticism, she was determined to prove him wrong about her acting skills. Even though she wasn't sure how to tell good acting from bad at that time, she went home and practiced her lines extensively to improve.
She further mentioned, “I went home. I didn't know what was good acting or bad acting; this was my third or fourth film. I had only 3–4 sheets in my hand, and I read them countless times. I went back, did the screen test again, and, of course, I was accepted."
On the work front, Manisha Koirala recently portrayed Mallikajaan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s series 'Heeramandi' on Netflix. The show also featured Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal, and more.
