Uttar Pradesh braces for new expressways: CM Yogi Adityanath announces 4 highways for better intra-state connectivity

Within 7 years, the state had only two expressways but today, it boasts six.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditiyanath announced on Thursday to introduce four new link expressways after a detailed study and action plan. Additionally, he reviewed the progress of ongoing and new expressway projects in the state and the development of the industrial and defence corridors at a high-level meeting.

CM Yogi highlighted the support of PM Narendra Modi stating the exponential growth since 2017. Within 7 years, the state had only two expressways but today, it boasts six. Additionally, the length of national highways has almost doubled in the same period. UP is now emerging as the “Expressway State,” he said.

As per reports, the new expressways include the Purvanchal Expressway, which will be connected to the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, and Ganga Expressway- which connects Farrukhabad and Jewar Airport via two link expressways.

The Ganga Expressway, connecting Meerut to Prayagraj, is planned to be completed and open to the public by this December to enable devotees from across the country and worldwide to utilize the expressway when travelling to the Prayagraj Kumbh in 2025.

Talking about the construction progress of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway, this link will provide excellent connectivity for the districts of Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Azamgarh, and Ambedkar Nagar.

The Bundelkhand Expressway, a link road connecting to Chitrakoot is expedited to meet public expectations. Reports suggest that a budget has been allocated for this purpose. This connection will greatly enhance Bundelkhand’s connectivity. Ensuring the quality of work and adherence to project timelines is essential.

To further enhance connectivity a world-class airport is under construction in Jewar, which needs to be integrated into the expressway network. A link expressway from the Ganga Expressway to Jewar Airport would be a suitable addition.

Similarly, constructing a link expressway from the Agra-Lucknow Expressway to the Purvanchal Expressway is necessary. Additionally, a new link expressway should connect the Ganga Expressway to the Agra-Lucknow Expressway via Farrukhabad. These new expressways, along with the Chitrakoot Link Expressway, will significantly boost the state’s infrastructure and connectivity.

A detailed report should be prepared following a preliminary study to ensure the feasibility and planning of these projects. Furthermore, to promote environmental sustainability and enhance the aesthetics of these new routes, saplings should be planted along both sides of all expressways.
